Frequently Asked Questions

My heater has a slight smell the first few times I use it. Is that normal?

Yes. During the first few hours of operation, it's normal for a new heater to produce a slight odor as manufacturing residues burn off. This should disappear quickly with normal use. If you notice a strong electrical smell, smoke, or visible damage, discontinue use immediately and contact Customer Support.

Why won't my remote control operate the heater?

Make sure the rear power switch is ON, the batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge, and you're pointing the remote toward the front of the heater without obstructions. If the heater responds to the control panel but not the remote, replacing the batteries often resolves the issue.

Can I run more than one GEN21 heater in my home?

Yes. Many customers use multiple GEN21 heaters throughout their home. However, each heater should be plugged into its own properly rated household circuit. Avoid plugging multiple high-power appliances into the same circuit to reduce the chance of tripping a breaker.

Why did my heater shut off by itself?

Several conditions can cause the heater to stop heating, including reaching the thermostat setting, an active timer, restricted airflow from a dirty filter, or the overheat protection system activating. Clean the filter, ensure nothing is blocking the air intake or outlet, and allow the heater to cool before restarting.

Can I plug the GEN21 into a power strip or extension cord?

No. For safe operation, always plug the GEN21 directly into a properly grounded wall outlet. Do not use extension cords, power strips, surge protectors, or outlet adapters, as these can overheat when used with high-wattage heaters.

Why does the displayed temperature not match my room thermometer?

The heater measures the air temperature at its own location, while wall thermostats and standalone thermometers measure temperature elsewhere in the room. Ceiling height, drafts, sunlight, and placement can all create small differences. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the heater.

My heater won't turn on. What should I check first?

Verify the rear POWER SUPPLY switch is turned ON, confirm the heater is plugged directly into a working wall outlet, and check your home's circuit breaker. If the display remains blank after these checks, contact Customer Support for additional assistance.

How do I clean the lifetime filter?

Turn the heater off, switch the rear power switch off, and unplug the unit. Remove the rear filter, vacuum or rinse it with warm water, allow it to dry completely, and reinstall it before operating the heater. Cleaning the filter regularly helps maintain maximum heating performance.

Why doesn't my GEN21 seem to be heating very well?

First, verify the heater is set to HH (High Heat) and that the thermostat is set above the room temperature. Next, inspect and clean the lifetime filter if needed. Infrared heaters also work best after warming the objects and surfaces in a room, so performance often improves after running continuously for a while.

Why does the fan keep running after I turn the heater off?

This is completely normal. The fan continues running for a short period after the heating elements shut off to safely cool the internal components. Once the heater has cooled, the fan will automatically stop.

Why is my GEN21 blowing cool air instead of heat?

The GEN21 may simply be in Fan Mode. Press the MODE button until the display shows HH (High Heat) or HL (Low Heat) instead of F1–F5. If you're already in a heat mode, make sure the thermostat is set higher than the current room temperature.
